Mike Simpson is the co-founder of The Interview Guys, the career-advice site he launched in February 2013 to help job seekers actually land the roles they want. Over the last 13 years, the site has reached more than 100 million job seekers worldwide, and Mike's particular focus is interview preparation: how candidates can actually answer the questions hiring managers really care about.
He holds a Business degree from Bishop's University (HR major, Economics minor) and is an active member of the Professional Association of Résumé Writers & Career Coaches (PARWCC) and the National Career Development Association (NCDA). His advice has been featured in Forbes, Entrepreneur, and CNBC, and is referenced by career-services teams at the University of Michigan, Penn State, Northeastern, the University of Toronto, McGill, Wellesley College, and Kansas State, among others.
Articles credited to Mike on The Interview Guys are reviewed and edited by him personally to make sure the frameworks, examples, and recommendations match what actually works in real interviews.
AT&T hires for a huge range of jobs, and the interview you get depends entirely on the one you’re chasing. A Retail Sales Consultant walks a very different path than a Software Engineer or a Cybersecurity Analyst, and prepping the wrong way wastes the limited time you have. The good news? AT&T is fairly predictable…
The New York City Police Department is the largest municipal police force in the country, with roughly 36,000 uniformed officers and around 19,000 civilian employees keeping the city running. That scale means a lot of open roles, and it also means a hiring process built to screen carefully. If you’re applying, know this up front:…
Sysco is the biggest name in food distribution, and that means the company is hiring constantly across sales, trucking, warehouse, and analytics. If you’ve got an interview lined up, you already know the roles are wildly different from each other, but the interview style has more in common than you’d expect. Here’s the thing most…
General Mills screens a lot of corporate and early-career candidates before a single human ever talks to them. The first gate is usually a HireVue one-way recorded video interview plus two separate online assessments: a personality questionnaire and a timed logic/reasoning test. Here’s what trips people up. There’s no live interviewer, so you’re talking to…
Southeastern Freight Lines has been moving freight across the Southeast since 1950, and it’s built a reputation as a family-owned carrier where people tend to stay for decades. If you’ve landed an interview, you’re looking at a company that treats its “Quality Without Question” motto as an actual standard, not a wall poster. Here’s the…
GoJet Airlines flies exclusively as United Express, which means every person they hire is representing a major airline brand the moment they put on the uniform. That changes how the interview feels. You’re not just being judged on whether you can do the job, you’re being judged on whether you can carry someone else’s reputation….
LA Metro moves millions of people across Los Angeles County, and the people who keep that system running get hired through a process that feels very different from a casual chat at a startup. The interviews are structured, panel-based, and scored against a fixed set of criteria. That structure is actually good news for you….
If you’re applying to ABM Aviation, you’re looking at one of the biggest names in airport services. The company cleans more than 1.5 million aircraft a year and works with all top 10 U.S. airlines, so the roles are real, steady, and in demand. The good news is that the interviews aren’t designed to trip…
Kraft Heinz screens you with two digital tools before a single human says hello. First comes a Pymetrics game-based assessment, then a HireVue one-way recorded video interview. You complete both on your own time, and both are AI-assisted gates. Here is why it trips people up. There is no live interviewer to read, no back…
MSC Cruises is a family-owned heavyweight that carried about 10% of all cruise passengers worldwide in 2025, which makes it the third-largest cruise company on the planet. That scale matters for you because it means the hiring bar is real, and the questions are more thoughtful than you might expect from a seasonal hospitality gig….
