Mike Simpson is the co-founder of The Interview Guys, the career-advice site he launched in February 2013 to help job seekers actually land the roles they want. Over the last 13 years, the site has reached more than 100 million job seekers worldwide, and Mike's particular focus is interview preparation: how candidates can actually answer the questions hiring managers really care about.
He holds a Business degree from Bishop's University (HR major, Economics minor) and is an active member of the Professional Association of Résumé Writers & Career Coaches (PARWCC) and the National Career Development Association (NCDA). His advice has been featured in Forbes, Entrepreneur, and CNBC, and is referenced by career-services teams at the University of Michigan, Penn State, Northeastern, the University of Toronto, McGill, Wellesley College, and Kansas State, among others.

Equipment Operator interviews have a rhythm all their own. You’re not sitting across from an HR panel asking you to describe a time you showed leadership, you’re usually talking to a foreman or site supervisor who wants to know if you can safely run their machine without tearing up the grade or putting a groundman…
Truist sends you a HireVue invite, and suddenly you’re talking to a webcam with no human on the other end. No small talk, no nodding interviewer, just a timer and a blinking red dot. It feels weird because it is weird. Here’s the good news. This is a one-way recorded screen, which means it’s predictable….
Landing a Chef de Partie role is a different game than getting hired as a line cook. Hiring managers aren’t just checking whether you can cook. They want proof you can own a station, keep it consistent under fire, and lead the commis chefs working under you. That bar makes sense when you look at…
Court interpreting is one of the only jobs where a single mistranslated word can change whether someone keeps their freedom, their children, or their immigration status. That pressure is exactly what interviewers are testing for. Here’s the thing most candidates miss: a court interpreter interview isn’t just a conversation. It’s part language exam, part ethics…
The Chief Revenue Officer seat is one of the most scrutinized hires a company makes. You’re not just running sales, you’re unifying sales, marketing, and customer success under one set of numbers the board actually trusts. The pay reflects the pressure. Built In pegs the average CRO base salary around $239,166 with total compensation near…

It’s an ultra-low-cost carrier built around flying people from small cities to vacation spots, and everything the company does is wired around keeping fares low and operations lean. That focus shows up…
Let’s clear up the confusion first. State Street uses a one-way, pre-recorded video interview for most early-career and intern roles, and the tool is most consistently reported as Modern Hire. Some candidates and guides also mention HireVue, so you may see either name depending on your role or region. Here’s what matters: the format is…
If you’re applying at Advance Auto Parts, here’s the good news up front: most store-level interviews are casual, conversational, and over in about 30 minutes. You’re usually sitting across from the store or general manager, not a corporate panel. But casual doesn’t mean easy. Even a quick chat for a Sales Associate or Retail Parts…
Discover Financial has a reputation for being a friendly place to work, and the interview tends to match that vibe. It’s structured, value-driven, and more about who you are than trying to trip you up. That doesn’t mean you can wing it. Whether you’re going for a Customer Service Representative seat in Phoenix, an Account…
Penske Automotive Group runs more than 350 retail and service locations, and a lot of them carry premium nameplates like BMW, Mercedes, and Audi. That matters because the person interviewing you cares as much about how you’ll represent that brand as they do about your resume. Here’s the good news. Penske interviews aren’t brutal. Glassdoor…
