Mike Simpson is the co-founder of The Interview Guys, the career-advice site he launched in February 2013 to help job seekers actually land the roles they want. Over the last 13 years, the site has reached more than 100 million job seekers worldwide, and Mike's particular focus is interview preparation: how candidates can actually answer the questions hiring managers really care about.
He holds a Business degree from Bishop's University (HR major, Economics minor) and is an active member of the Professional Association of Résumé Writers & Career Coaches (PARWCC) and the National Career Development Association (NCDA). His advice has been featured in Forbes, Entrepreneur, and CNBC, and is referenced by career-services teams at the University of Michigan, Penn State, Northeastern, the University of Toronto, McGill, Wellesley College, and Kansas State, among others.
Articles credited to Mike on The Interview Guys are reviewed and edited by him personally to make sure the frameworks, examples, and recommendations match what actually works in real interviews.
ASM Global runs the buildings where the big nights happen. Concerts, conventions, playoff games, trade shows, you name it, and someone on their team is making sure it goes off without a hitch. That scale is real. ASM Global operates over 400 premier venues worldwide, produces more than 20,000 live events a year, and welcomes…
SoFi sits in a strange, interesting spot. It’s a licensed bank and a fast-moving fintech at the same time, which means the interview can feel part startup, part regulated financial institution. That mix shapes everything about how they hire. You’ll get behavioral questions tied tightly to their values, plus role-specific technical or skills questions depending…
ABM Industries keeps buildings, airports, hospitals, and parking operations running across the country, and that means they hire constantly for frontline and operational roles. If you’re applying to be a janitor, a building engineer, an operations manager, or aviation support staff, the interview is less about polish and more about proving you’ll show up and…
Here’s the thing nobody warns you about: Wells Fargo’s HireVue isn’t a conversation. You record answers to pre-set questions with no interviewer on the other end, and that silence is exactly what rattles people. You get about 30 seconds to think, then roughly 2 minutes to answer, staring into your own webcam. No nods, no…
Interviewing at Kumon isn’t like interviewing at a big corporate office where you’re grilled on quarterly numbers. It’s a warmer, more personal conversation about kids, patience, and whether you genuinely believe children can teach themselves with the right structure. Here’s the encouraging part. Candidates rate the Kumon interview difficulty at just 2 out of 5…
Texas Roadhouse hires fast, and it hires for personality. Managers here will tell you flat out that they train the skills and interview for the attitude, so walking in flat or overly rehearsed is the quickest way to get passed over. The good news is that this is one of the friendlier interviews you’ll sit…
Goldman Sachs uses HireVue as its main early-round filter, and it catches a lot of smart people off guard. You record answers to pre-set questions with no live human on the other end. Just you, a camera, a countdown, and silence. That silence is the problem. There’s no interviewer to nod along, prompt you, or…
ExxonMobil doesn’t hand out offers casually. Whether you’re applying to be a reservoir engineer, a process engineer, a plant operator, a software engineer, or a business analyst, you’re walking into one of the most structured, competency-based interview processes in the energy industry. The good news? Structured means predictable. Exxon interviewers are trained to score your…
So you’ve got a LoanDepot interview coming up, and you want to walk in knowing exactly what’s ahead. Smart move. LoanDepot is a consumer-direct lender built on a competitive, sales-driven culture, and its interviews reflect that. Whether you’re going for a loan officer seat, a processing role, an underwriting job, or a spot on the…
Let’s clear up the confusion first. Amazon runs a few different screens depending on your role, and people mix them up constantly. Customer Service and some non-technical roles get a one-way recorded HireVue video, while most technical and business roles get Amazon’s own Online Assessment (OA) with no live person at all. That mismatch is…
