Mike Simpson is the co-founder of The Interview Guys, the career-advice site he launched in February 2013 to help job seekers actually land the roles they want. Over the last 13 years, the site has reached more than 100 million job seekers worldwide, and Mike's particular focus is interview preparation: how candidates can actually answer the questions hiring managers really care about.
He holds a Business degree from Bishop's University (HR major, Economics minor) and is an active member of the Professional Association of Résumé Writers & Career Coaches (PARWCC) and the National Career Development Association (NCDA). His advice has been featured in Forbes, Entrepreneur, and CNBC, and is referenced by career-services teams at the University of Michigan, Penn State, Northeastern, the University of Toronto, McGill, Wellesley College, and Kansas State, among others.
Articles credited to Mike on The Interview Guys are reviewed and edited by him personally to make sure the frameworks, examples, and recommendations match what actually works in real interviews.
You got the email. It mentions a “Hogan Assessment,” gives you a link and a deadline, and your stomach drops. Take a breath, because you’re already doing the smart thing by reading this first. The Hogan Assessment is a suite of scientifically validated personality inventories built by Drs. Robert and Joyce Hogan back in 1987….
AdventHealth is one of the largest faith-based health systems in the country, with more than 92,000 team members and roughly 4 million unique patients served across 13.5 million encounters in 2025. That scale means a lot of open roles, but it also means the hiring bar is real. Here’s the thing most people miss. AdventHealth…
Peet’s Coffee is one of those places where the interview feels more like a friendly chat than an interrogation, and that’s exactly why people underprepare and lose out. The bar isn’t technical skill. It’s personality, warmth, and whether you actually care about coffee. Most store-level interviews happen right there in the coffeehouse, often in a…
Exercise physiologist jobs don’t all look the same, and that matters a lot for how you prep. You might be interviewing for a clinical role in a hospital cardiac rehab unit, an applied position in a community wellness center, or a senior spot running programs and supervising staff. The demand is real. The BLS Occupational…
Concierge interviews are a little different from most. The resume gets you in the room, but the job itself lives in the soft stuff: patience, discretion, warmth under pressure, and a memory for the perfect little detail that makes a guest feel like a regular. That’s exactly why the interview carries so much weight. Whether…
Barclays screens early-careers applicants with two digital gates before any human speaks to you. First an SHL online assessment (numerical, logical, situational judgement, plus a mindset questionnaire), then a one-way HireVue video interview Barclays calls the Digital Interview or Business Insight. Here is why it trips people up. There is no live interviewer. A question…
The Director of Security title covers a lot of ground. Depending on the employer, you might be running a Security Operations Center, hardening a corporate campus, owning cyber risk for a regulated bank, or all of the above. That range is exactly what makes these interviews tricky. Hiring panels want proof you can go deep…
Copy editing interviews are strange in one big way: the conversation isn’t the hardest part. The editing test usually is. Most employers want to watch you actually fix a passage before they trust you with their words. That means you’re really preparing for two things at once. You need clean, honest answers to behavioral and…
Let’s clear up the confusion first. AT&T runs its screening through its own careers portal, and depending on the role you might hit a structured online assessment, a Behavioral Event Interview (BEI), or a recorded one-way video step. No candidate report we reviewed names HireVue or any other outside video vendor by name. So if…
The Chief Strategy Officer seat is one of the hardest to interview for because there’s no single skill they’re testing. They want analytical firepower, executive presence, and proof you can turn a smart idea into something the whole company actually executes. This role sits right next to the CEO, so the bar for judgment is…
