Jeff Gillis is the co-founder and Chief Technical Officer of The Interview Guys, the career-advice site he and Mike Simpson launched in 2013. Over the last 13 years, Jeff has been the strategic mind behind how the site connects with job seekers, helping reach more than 100 million people worldwide through content, tools, and product development.
His background is in IT and digital strategy, which shapes how he approaches the modern job search: ATS systems, resume optimization, the mechanics of how recruiters and platforms actually filter candidates, and the tactics that work when applying through online portals. Jeff has published more than 50 in-depth career resources including case studies, comprehensive guides, and video courses, and his work has appeared in INC, MSN, and ZDNet.
Articles credited to Jeff on The Interview Guys are reviewed and edited by him personally, with a focus on resume strategy, job-search tactics, and how to actually get past the digital gatekeepers most candidates struggle with.
The summary at the top of your resume is the first thing a hiring manager reads, and often the only thing they read before deciding to keep going or move on. For a Machine Operator, that block has to prove you can run named equipment safely and hit tolerances, all in about three sentences. Most…
Salary negotiation is mostly a writing and thinking problem, and that’s exactly where Gemini shines. It can draft your counteroffer email in three tones, pull current comp data off the live web, and play the hard-nosed recruiter so you practice before it counts. Here’s what most people get wrong. They accept Gemini’s first draft, which…
Apple pay in 2026, both worlds: store specialists at $22 to $34 an hour with retail’s best benefits stack, Genius rates above that, and the corporate ICT ladder from ~$170k entry packages to seven figures.
The box at the top of your resume gets read first, and often it gets read fast. A recruiter or an ATS scans it in seconds to decide if you clear the basics: license class, clean record, and whether you can actually move volume. Most delivery driver candidates blow it. They write something like ‘Hardworking…
What working at Google is really like in 2026: the 4.4/5 rating and 87% recommend decoded, the team lottery and promotion wall behind the asterisks, post-layoff-era culture honestly, and who thrives there.

Run the math and a careers-page applicant was roughly four times more likely to get hired than someone who came in through a big board. That gap comes…
Gemini’s real advantage isn’t magic writing. It’s that it lives inside the tools you already use, Docs, Gmail, Drive, and NotebookLM, so you can iterate on an application without switching tabs. But most people use it like a vending machine. They type “write me a cover letter,” paste the result straight into a template, and…
Most job seekers use AI to write things. That’s the mistake. Perplexity isn’t a writing tool, it’s a research engine, and that’s exactly why it’s underrated for your job search. Every query it runs hits the live web and comes back with citations. So instead of a chatbot guessing about a company from stale training…
Google pay decoded for 2026: reported totals from ~$189k at L3 to $380k at L5, how base, bonus, and stock assemble, the leveling decision worth six figures, and the $150k-to-$187k median posted bands from 203 postings we analyzed.
The box at the top of your resume is the first thing a hiring manager reads, and often the only thing they read closely before deciding to keep going or move on. For social work roles, that decision happens fast because reviewers are scanning for a license, a caseload, and a population before anything else….
